Dear Families,

Happy Spring! This week in second grade the children continued to work on their leprechaun stories. They are going through the process of mapping out the story elements, writing the story, editing and completing a finished copy. It is fun to watch their great imaginiations at work. We read and discussed Chicken Sunday by Patricia Polacco. The children wrote a summary of the story in their story journals. Reshenka's Eggs is another favorite Patricia Polacco story that we shared. As a follow up activity the children made their own special egg and wrote a piece to describe it,

Fraction, fractions, fractions has been the math theme this week! The children were introduced to equivalent fractions and compared fractions using fraction cards. On Monday we will write fraction number stories to end this unit. These skills are beginning and developing.

The children are so excited about their cereal box book reports on a famous person. All children finished reading their book at school and many worked on the summary here too. Thank you for you support with this project at home. The boxes are due next week, The due date is Monday. If you need more time please let me know!

During reader's workshop this week the children continued to read various biographies. It is exciting to hear them share facts about all of these famous people.

We have become book buddies with Mrs. Trite's third grade class! On Thursday afternoons from 1:45-2;15 we will get together with our book buddies to read and share special projects that we are doing in our classrooms. This is a great opportunity to meet new friends and get a little taste of life in third grade.
