No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB)
As part of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) teachers must meet a specific, federal definition of "Highly Qualified" in order to teach in schools that receive federal funding. As you know, our schools Central Elementary School and Eliot Elementary School receive federal funds to support their Title 1 Programs. These Title 1 Programs provide early intervention for reading for Grade 1 students and Early Success for Grade 2 students who are eligible. Our teachers meet the federal definition of "Highly Qualified".
Many of our staff members have advanced degrees. Each teacher continues to learn through professional development activities. Our teachers are evaluated each year to make sure that their teaching skills remain at the highest possible level.
Additional information on the NCLB act, as well as on the qualifications of your child's teacher, are available upon request. Please contact Eliot Elementary School Principal Maureen Goering at 207-439-9904 or Central School Principal Nina D'Aran at 207-384-2333 if you have any questions or if you would like additional information. We welcome your interest.
