Dear Parents/Guardians,
On behalf of the staff of Eliot Elementary
School, welcome to our school community. We
encourage you to become involved with EES
during this exciting time of elementary school
where the foundation for all future learning
begins. We believe that the partnership
between home and school is vital for a safe,
happy, and rewarding learning experience for
your child. Our goal is to provide a child
centered school community, nurturing
individual learning styles and interests,
while challenging every child to reach his/her
fullest potential. Our hope is that all EES
"graduates" leave us with a sense of
citizenship and a lifelong love of learning.
Eliot Elementary is accredited by the New
England Association of Schools and Colleges
and our curriculum is aligned with both the
Maine Department of Education Learning Results
and the National Council of Teachers of
Mathematics. Teachers and administrators work
on committees throughout the year to develop
innovative educational programs and common
assessments to ensure that every child meets
these standards. Our low class size allows
children to learn to the best of their
abilities, and classroom teachers work in
collaboration with an extensive support staff
to meet the needs of all students.
Eliot Elementary is very proud of our
volunteer organization and community
parent/teacher organization. Our volunteer
program is the oldest in the state and one of
the most active, supplying our school with
volunteers for every imaginable activity. The
Eliot Community Parent Teacher Organization (ECPTO)
fundraisers help support our curriculum by
providing enrichment programs and materials.
We are very fortunate to have such wonderful
support!
This handbook is designed to answer many of
the concerns and questions you may have about
school policies and procedures. We ask that
after you have read this handbook that you
please sign and return the enclosed
acknowledgement form. We hope the information
in the handbook will help you to know our
school, and become an integral part of our
school community. There will be many
opportunities throughout the year. This
interaction between school and families is key
to each child's success. Together we make a
difference!
Please feel free to contact the school with
your questions and concerns. Again, we are
happy to welcome you to Eliot Elementary
School and look forward to a very successful
working relationship with you and your child.
Sincerely,
Margaret C. Shepherd, Principal
