The Process

First you will be assigned a famous Mainer by your teacher.

Before you begin your research, decide on the method of research-gathering to use...the Internet or library or both?

Make sure you have notepaper or index cards to record your information. Remember to put the information in your own words. Do not copy word-for-word.

The following information needs to be gathered:

The person's

  1. name
  2. birth and death dates

Two to three paragraphs telling:

  1. who your person is
  2. where in Maine he/she is from
  3. what he/she is famous for

A picture of your famous person. This picture may be a photocopy or may be downloaded from the Internet. The bigger the picture, the better. We want to SEE these famous Mainers.

If you are using the Internet, make sure to include:

  1. the web address where you found on-line information and the date you used the website...For example: Maine Secretary of State Kid's Page--Famous People--xxx, http://www.state.me.us/sos/kids/allabout/people/xxx.htm, Jan.15, 2004
  2. the web address of the picture your downloaded and the date of the download.....For example: image, Maine Secretary of State Kid's Page--Famous People--LL Bean, http://www.state.me.us/sos/kids/allabout/people/ll_bean.htm, Jan.15, 2004

If you are using the library, make sure to include:
